Why We Started dracome
Book communities are very active, but also very scattered. Today, readers use several apps at the same time:
To catalog their books
To track their reading progress
To find new book recommendations
To talk with others on social channels
To blog
The problem: many existing platforms are closed, outdated or offer only limited community features. For authors, it's also often hard to become visible at all, or they have to spend a lot of money to do so.
That's What We Want to Change
With dracome, we want to create an open and inclusive book platform where readers, authors and bloggers all feel at home. Our goal is to bring the diverse needs of the book world together in one place.
Launching a new platform is often difficult: without enough users, the exchange stays superficial or doesn't happen at all. That's exactly where we come in: the 44 million registered users of the Atmosphere simply bring their account with them.
The Atmosphere?
The Atmosphere is a network of different apps and platforms with social features. Its biggest platform right now is Bluesky, which already has an active book community.
What makes this network special is its openness: users can switch between apps easily and take their data with them. And that's exactly what we build on: not as yet another isolated app, but as the place that brings everything together.
The Vision of dracome
In short, we want to:
Make books a more social experience: through people you trust and through community activities.
Capture your own reading life in a nicer way: with digital bookshelves, reading progress and reviews that are allowed to be fun, too.
Bring readers and authors closer together: with better ways to present books and build trust, instead of being just another advertising space.
Connect bloggers and authors: because we think self-publishers are an important part of the book world.
The dracome Journal
dracome itself is the place this is all about. In the dracome Journal, we write down what we're working on right now, before the rest of the world sees it: decisions before they're final, sneak peeks at things we're currently building, and every now and then a look at a fork in the road we deliberately didn't take.
There's no fixed schedule, and that's on purpose. We write when we have something real to show, not by calendar.
If you want to be part of it from the start, we'd be glad to have every one of you. In the next sneak peeks, we'll show you things before they're finished, so you can give us feedback early and we can feed it directly into our decisions.
